slumGODS, cos we were never dogs

Came across these videos of a B-Boy scene developing amongst a few locals in India, and thought these were some excellent videos that were worth sharing. The actual moves on show are great to watch and I think there is a unique novelty element of seeing a form of hip hop culture, now reach India, a region which is largely untapped from the reach of Hip Hop.

Slumgods Part I from tahska on Vimeo.

One of the videos has a contributor drawing a parallel with the tough backgrounds and poverty that he sees in the Indian cities that he works in, providing the environment which would ultimately establish the origins of a native hip hop scene - in similar fashion to how it originated 30 years back from the Bronx. And I do think that's a reasonable comparison to make, not a churlish or lazy connection, but a credible and interesting story just to document.

I only found out about these videos through a blog post on Bombay Bronx website
here
...which is has some other content about the Slumgods project developed by a promising rapper called Mandeep Sethi on which there is more information on as well further links about the specific projects working with underprivileged people if you wish to know more: here and here
